The day began with a 31-gun salute in the Federal Capital and a 21-gun salute at provincial headquarters, accompanied by special prayers in mosques for the peace, unity, and prosperity of the nation.
It is important to note that the recent triumph in the Marka-e-Haq against India’s unprovoked aggression has heightened the nation’s enthusiasm for this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
Buildings have been adorned with national flags, bunting, and lights. Citizens have displayed national flags on their vehicles and rooftops.
The primary flag-hoisting ceremony took place at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif raised the national flag.
Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, cabinet members, parliamentarians, and school students attended the ceremony.
During the event, special prayers were offered for the nation’s progress and prosperity.
A flag-hoisting ceremony was also conducted at the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Islamabad, where Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi unfurled the national flag.
Change of guard ceremony conducted at Mazar-e-Quaid
An impressive change of guard ceremony took place at the mausoleum of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi, on Thursday (August 14) to commemorate Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
Cadets from the Pakistan Naval Academy, impeccably dressed, took over the responsibilities of ceremonial guards at the mausoleum. This tradition is upheld annually on August 14.
The ceremonial guard from the Pakistan Navy consisted of two groups – one made up of sailors and the other of cadets from the Pakistan Naval Academy. The sailors’ unit was led by Lieutenant Ali Hassan, while Chief Cadet Captain Muhammad Zain commanded the cadets’ unit.
Commodore Tassawar Iqbal, Commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy, served as the chief guest for the occasion, with Lieutenant Commander Samiullah fulfilling the role of parade commander.
The guards of the Pakistan Navy rendered a national salute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, after which the chief guest conducted an inspection of the newly assigned guards. Following this, Commodore Tassawar Iqbal placed a floral wreath at the mausoleum, offered Fateha, and recorded his thoughts in the visitors’ book.
