Donald Trump’s special envoy Witkoff says about Gaza ceasefire
Last week, Donald Trump’s special envoy Witkoff claimed the US was pulling out of the Qatar negotiations over the Gaza ceasefire due to Hamas canceling the ceasefire showing intent for Gaza ceasefire.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Trump’s Special Envoy, Witkoff, has issued a statement saying the US will be suspending negotiations with Hamas and will be withdrawing their team from Qatar for consultations due to Hamas’ unwillingness to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza.
Witkoff remarked, “Despite the significant efforts of the mediators, Hamas seems to lack coordination and is not acting in good faith.” He further mentioned that they are “Exploring alternative approaches for the release of hostages that could contribute to establishing a stable environment in Gaza.”
The parties have engaged in discussions in Qatar for several weeks, with some sources indicating limited progress, yet no substantial breakthroughs have been achieved.Officials have indicated that one of the main areas of contention is the redeployment of Israeli forces after a ceasefire has been established.
The lack of comment from both the White House and the State Department raises both uncertainties over what ‘alternative methods’ are deemed best for the negotiation as well as the lack of communication strategy from both departments.
Due to the severe worsening in the conditions in Gaza, a resolution for the ceasefire between Hamas and Trump’s administration has remained unattained for months. Reports have claimed that the region had one of the deadliest days during their ongoing war for aid seekers with over 85 Palestinians being killed while trying to access the food.
