A flood warning has been issued for Islamabad and Rawalpindi as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts heavy rainfall from July 28 to 31.
The PMD warns that stronger monsoon currents, expected to peak by July 28, combined with a westerly weather system arriving on July 29, may lead to widespread downpours, particularly in areas susceptible to water accumulation.
Authorities have been notified about the increased risk of urban flooding in low-lying neighborhoods of both cities.
The PMD has also highlighted the potential for flash floods in local streams and drainage channels. Furthermore, strong winds, heavy rainfall, and lightning could threaten fragile structures, power lines, billboards, and solar panels. There is also a risk of landslides and possible road blockages in the nearby hilly areas.
Officials are advised to stay alert and take necessary safety precautions. The PMD has also recommended that residents, travelers, and tourists remain cautious and keep up to date with the latest weather information.
