The Excise and Taxation Department of Islamabad has recently revealed its intentions to implement a vehicle registration system based on the model utilized in the United States.
It has been reported that Punjab is preparing to adopt similar changes concerning vehicle registration and the issuance of number plates.
As per a report, the Excise Department has determined that number plates will now be issued directly in the name of the vehicle owner, and plates registered to the vehicle itself will no longer be permitted.
The Excise Department has stated that vehicle registration will now be connected to the owner’s identity, which is expected to enhance security and facilitate the identification of vehicle owners.
In the existing system, the number plate was linked to the vehicle. However, with the new system, it will be registered directly in the owner’s name. Should you sell your vehicle, you will be required to remove your current number plate and retain it, while the new purchaser will need to acquire a new number plate or apply for a personalized one.
