Recent media reports indicating that the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has Canceled the Bike Lane on Ferozepur Road Punjab, have led to confusion among residents and commuters. Various news outlets and social media users have shared this claim, yet most did not provide official verification, rendering the reports speculative and misleading.
To clarify matters, the LDA’s Public Relations Officer, Osama Mehmood, released a statement dismissing the rumors. He affirmed that the LDA has not terminated the bike lane project and described the viral news reports as false and clickbait.
Mehmood explained that the only modification made was by the Traffic Police Lahore, not the LDA. Concrete dividers were taken down on a specific stretch of the road due to accident risks during peak hours. However, this action did not result in the cancellation of the bike lane project itself.
Bike Lane Remains Operational
To assess the current status of the bike lane, a ground survey was carried out from Chungi to Qaddafi Flyover. The results are as follows:
- Chungi to Kalma Flyover: Concrete dividers have been removed for safety reasons.
- Kalma Flyover to Qaddafi Flyover: Dividers remain intact, and the bike lane continues to function as planned.
- Red Line: Marks the area where dividers were removed.
- Blue Line: Marks where dividers are still in place and the bike lane remains fully operational.
Despite the rumors, the Ferozepur Road bike lane project is still active. The adjustments made were related to safety and were temporary, initiated by the Traffic Police. The LDA confirmed that the project continues to be part of Lahore’s larger urban mobility and traffic management strategy.
