On Monday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) concluded a public hearing regarding the Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (QTA) mechanism for the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2024–25, concerning power distribution companies (DISCOs). This may result in a consumer relief of up to Rs. 1.80 per unit for the upcoming three months.
The hearing was chaired by NEPRA’s Chairman, Waseem Mukhtar, and was attended by officials from the Central Power Purchasing Agency – Guaranteed (CPPA-G), members of the business community, representatives from the Ministry of Energy, journalists, and members of the general public.
NEPRA reported that the DISCOs had requested a relief amounting to Rs 53.393 billion under the fourth quarter adjustment for FY 2024–25. Should this request be approved, the proposed adjustment would grant a relief of Rs. 1.80 per unit for electricity consumers over a three-month duration, according to officials from CPPA-G.
NEPRA assured that all stakeholders were afforded a fair opportunity to express their opinions during the hearing. If the proposed relief is enacted, it will be applicable to all DISCO consumers, including those of K-Electric, with the exception of lifeline users, prepaid consumers, and electric vehicle charging stations.
The Authority will provide a comprehensive decision following a thorough review of the data.
