Islamabad Targets Smoky Vehicles to Improve Air Quality
After shutting down polluting brick kilns, Islamabad officials are now focusing on vehicles that release too much smoke.
Free Checks Until August 31st:
Drivers can get their vehicle’s smoke levels tested for free at three locations: Old Parade Ground, F-9 Park, and the Excise Office.
This free service started on July 15th and ends on August 31st.
Vehicles made in 2021 or later don’t need testing right now.
How it Works:
Both private cars and commercial vehicles are being tested using international-standard equipment.
Vehicles that pass get a special barcode sticker for their windshield as proof they meet the rules.
Strict Rules & Fines Coming:
Starting September 1st, the free testing ends.
Vehicles visibly emitting smoke will be BANNED from entering Islamabad.
Owners of these smoky vehicles will face large fines.
Public Response & Progress:
Many residents support the clean air effort but want more testing centers to reduce wait times.
During the initial fortnight, authorities conducted tests on 2,778 vehicles.
The vast majority (2,665 vehicles) passed the test and met the standards.
The Goal: This campaign aims to make Islamabad’s air cleaner and encourage people to maintain their vehicles responsibly.
