Punjab govt okays Canal Ship Restaurant project despite opposition
Despite the objections raised by the Punjab finance department and the P&D Board, which argued that the ‘Canal Ship Restaurant’ represents a waste of resources and is therefore inappropriate, the Punjab government has proceeded with its approval, as reported by 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
According to the documents obtained by the 24News TV channel, the project’s cost has now escalated to Rs540 million, up from the previously estimated Rs350 million.
The provincial government granted its approval following modifications to the design and an assessment conducted by NESPAK.
The finance department expressed its opposition to the project, contending that an expenditure of Rs4 million per seat on the ship is excessive.
The documents indicate that the department also objected to the construction of a bridge, which is projected to cost Rs50 million, as well as a ‘selfie point’ estimated to exceed Rs10 million.
The supplementary grant for the project will now be allocated to the PHA, while the P&D Board will be responsible for arranging the necessary funding.
