The ministers of CM Punjab will continue to receive their full salaries during the holiday period.
The Chief Minister and the ministers of Punjab are set to receive payment during their leave shortly, as a summary of a proposed amendment to the law has been prepared, as reported by the 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
According to the report from the channel, this amendment aims to provide leave allowances in a manner similar to that of parliamentary advisors in Punjab.
Following a suggestion from the Punjab Assembly Secretariat, the Law Department has drafted the amendment bill and forwarded it to the Chief Minister of Punjab for his approval.
In light of recent salary increases, there is a proposal to standardize leave benefits across these high-ranking offices.
Plans are in progress to legally empower the chief minister, the ministers, the speaker, and the deputy speaker to receive equal salaries during their leave periods.
Moreover, the legal modification will broaden the scope of salaries and allowances during official holidays, with a bill for full salary and allowances on such holidays currently pending approval.
Under the Punjab Advisors (Salary, Allowances and Privileges) Ordinance of 2002, parliamentary advisors are already entitled to a leave allowance that is equivalent to their full salary.
This indicates that they continue to receive their regular monthly salary even while on leave.
Interestingly, the Chief Minister possesses the authority to grant leave of absence for a maximum of three months at a time for urgent matters.
Media reports suggest that advisors are receiving their full monthly salary of nearly one million rupees during their leave.
It is crucial to highlight that the Punjab Assembly has the power to determine the salaries and allowances of its members and other parliamentary officials.
